Martech Outlook | Wednesday, December 28, 2022
Members of the jury for The Drum Awards for Digital Advertising APAC give us a run-down of the biggest trends emerging from this year’s entrants, from new platform innovation to limit-pushing creativity, in-depth data and hyper-local startups.
FREMONT, CA: The world is observing a trend of brands using platforms like Twitch to find influencers and content producers who are pertinent to their brands and target audience. There is ground-breaking work that demonstrates a strong comprehension of the target audience's use of these new platforms and how that understanding influences the creative idea and outcomes. This is a very positive trend since it demonstrates that platform innovation is firmly founded on solid consumer understanding rather than simply employing new platforms for the sake of using something new.
The work exhibits great target audience insights and aligns them with the appropriate platform. It exemplifies a platform-first strategic approach by identifying a key behaviour pattern in the target audience's use of these platforms' websites, and social media platforms, and then using this pattern to support the creative idea.

Pushing the Limits of Creativity: The strategies employed ingenuity, pushed the envelope, and didn't let obstacles get in the way of reaching their goals. Some of the initiatives were quite successful in getting over covid-related obstacles. Despite market constraints, many showed tremendous resiliency and made no effort to stop implementing go-to-market efforts. To the next year's participants, they advise making sure your reports are well-structured and displayed as several entries were not very well written.
In-depth Data Insurgence: One uses considerably more detailed data. It has been effectively utilised and is one of the most powerful instruments this year. Potential customers can be assessed and the undesirable ones can be filtered out to target the right audience using a multi-layered approach to geospatial data analysis. Many firms have had success with their marketing to the usage of data.
Unique product integrations are another option. The brand's environment was solidly established this year and went much beyond basic allusions. This innovative method makes the integration of brands remarkably simple. Additionally, brands have a purpose by addressing global concerns and interacting with them rather than merely marketing items, which is why they are so well-liked.
The Rise of Hyper-local Startups: The default right now is data. They are aware of how important it is for a successful campaign, but due to differences in market maturity and low internet penetration, Asia was sluggish to react. However, the availability and low cost of smartphones have enabled many nations to completely skip the desktop age and instead embrace the video and mobile commerce revolutions. Covid only sped up the use of digital technology by bolstering the APAC martech, which is expected to rise at a rate of over 17 per cent yearly through 2026. The majority of the entries highlighted how it has allowed brands and agencies to take advantage of the data-led strategy, execution, and measurement.
Brands and agencies are collaborating with seasoned hyper-local start-ups more frequently. The Asia Pacific region had around 200 unicorn startups in April 2021, second only to the United States (290), and more than Europe (69). Some of the entries created an entire campaign around such businesses, giving them access to a targeted audience, a user base that is already established, and the flexibility to capitalise on startup services like loyalty points, promotions, samples, and O2O measurements.
