Lyon Video Chooses FOR-A FA-9600 Signal Processors to Upconvert Content during Live College Football Productions

Lyon Video has some legacy equipment in the truck, but the FA-9600s were purchased as a modern solution.
FREMONT, CA: Lyon Video, a video broadcasting and production firm based in Columbus, Ohio, has chosen FOR-A Corporation of America’s 10 FA-9600 multi-purpose signal processors with the High Dynamic Range (HDR) software option. The first eight units were installed in Lyon-14, a 53-foot expando OB truck utilized for a 13-game NCAA Division I college football package for the 2021 season.
While the FA-9600s will be employed for sports this autumn, the long-term objective is to have them available for many projects. Lyon Video president Chad Snyder stated that the two extra units would be put in Lyon-14 later this year. Lyon-14 is outfitted with 11 Grass Valley LDX 86N native 4K UHD cameras. Although Lyon Video will create football games in UHD, not all content from outside sources, such as graphics, POV cameras, and effects, will be provided in UHD. The FA-9600s will provide upconversion of HD signals, which will help the viewer avoid a jarring variation in picture quality across parts.
“The quality of the conversion is so important. When we looked at the options available to us, the FA-9600s quality was superior to their competitors,” Snyder said. “Having these signal processors as part of our equipment package allows us to include these extra visual elements that viewers are accustomed to seeing. This gives it a consistent feel at the network level.”
The FA-9600’s two 3G/HD/SD-SDI inputs are designed for live HDR broadcast production. They contain a frame synchronizer, HDR and Wide Color Gamut compatibility, and conversion of numerous formats, including 12G, 4K (UHD), 1080p, and HD/SD-SDI. Its 12G-SDI terminals offer 4K production (with appropriate software), and an optional expansion card adds four more channels of 3G-SDI I/O or six more channels of 12G-SDI dispersed output. Built-in LUTs and 3D LUT support for SDR-HDR, HDR-HDR, and HDR-SDR conversions in mixed SDR and HDR production environments provide exceptional conversion precision.
